The 14th International Underwater Photography Event, FOTOSUB 2025, is approaching as an excellent opportunity to explore the wonders of Cuba's underwater world. Those interested can demonstrate their talent and passion for this discipline from July 22 to 25 at the Faro Luna International Diving Center in Cienfuegos province.
FOTOSUB is organized by Marinas y Náutica Marlin S.A., a company belonging to the Cubasol Group. It is an open competition, and its main objective is the selection and presentation of photographs of the underwater world, taken during the competition. Certified photographers and models participate, and they must comply with the competition rules.
The competition includes four categories, including "Environment," which focuses on depicting a harmonious underwater environment, preferably taken with a wide-angle lens. "Environment with Model" is included for any photo that reflects an underwater environment and also includes the presence of a diver, whether using SCUBA equipment or basic freediving equipment.
The competition also offers a "Fauna" category, aimed at highlighting the presence of underwater life, while "Macro" includes any photo of a marine organism where its details are magnified.
Owned by Marinas y Náutica Marlin S.A., the Faro Luna International Diving Center covers an area of approximately 3.5 nautical miles, with dive sites close to the coast and easily accessible farther away less than 10 minutes by boat. Among the 30 dive sites are La Corona, El Laberinto, Camaronero III, Notre Dame, La Patana, Cable Inglés, and Rancho Luna.
Its seabed features calm waters with horizontal visibility of 25 meters and a pleasant average temperature of 26°C year-round. The depths of the dive sites on the platform range from 5 to 40 meters. There are many ideal snorkeling and photography sites where you can find sunken ships, well-preserved and with marine life, and accessible for swimming. Particularly noteworthy is a majestic coral formation known as the Notre Dame Reef. The travel agency Ecotur S.A., a nature tourism specialist, will provide inbound services to participants and also offer excursions and other activities. FOTOSUB is an event that promotes the conservation of marine biodiversity through the observation of its beauty, captured in the contestants' images.
