International Jazz Plaza Festival

The International Jazz Plaza Festival will bring together more than 150 national and international artists in its 40th edition, which will take place in Havana, Santiago de Cuba and, among its novelties, will also be held in the city of Santa Clara. The event will return from January 26 to February 2, 2025.

During the first press conference held in the Vedado room of the Hotel Nacional, the organizing committee revealed that another of the surprises is the poster created by Cuban artist Zaida del Río. The 2023 National Prize for Plastic Arts thus becomes the first woman whose work will distinguish Jazz Plaza. Her painting will accompany the event's supports along with the traditional logo with the iconic neon lights. Meanwhile, the song "Jazz Plaza 40", composed for the occasion by the renowned pianist and artistic director of the event, Roberto Fonseca, will be part of the Festival's campaign.

The next edition will pay tribute to the 80th anniversary of the life of maestro Frank Fernández, the 65th anniversary of the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry ICAIC , and the 20th anniversary of the Leonardo Acosta In Memoriam International Colloquium. It will also recognize outstanding musicians in the movement of the genre, as well as producers, promoters and institutions related to this style, with the 40th anniversary of the Jazz Plaza medal.

The event will host more than 200 concerts, theoretical events and exchanges on the music industry. The extensive program will include photography and visual arts exhibitions, and will also reserve space to highlight the work of Cuban cinema for 65 years. Meanwhile, the children's company "La Colmenita" will offer two concerts as part of the celebrations for its 35th anniversary.

The press conference was attended by the honorary president, Bobby Carcasses, the artistic director, Roberto Fonseca, its president, Víctor Rodríguez, and the president of the Cuban Institute of Music, Indira Fajardo.
